Cartagena - a city Mรกrquez described like an amethyst afternoon. Cobbled streets, colonial buildings, and two-story casas. A rainbow of colors and flowered vines spilling over. Arrested and almost executed for reading Hegel and being a member of the Petrashevsky Circle, a literary group that opposed the Tsar, Dostoyevsky would spend four years in a labor camp. The execution was stayed, and after his release, he wrote ๐˜พ๐™ง๐™ž๐™ข๐™š ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™‹๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™จ๐™๐™ข๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ, and his last and most existential, ๐™๐™๐™š ๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™จ ๐™†๐™–๐™ง๐™–๐™ข๐™–๐™ฏ๐™ค๐™ซ.
